History

The Hofmanns' home was built in 1895 by August and Ida Siefert, prominent citizens in Reedsburg's early days, who emigrated from Germany to Wisconsin in 1873. August Siefert was Postmaster and later Vice-President of the Citizen's Bank. He helped organize the Reedsburg Chamber of Commerce and was on the library board. The home was the first home built on this block.

In 1929 Dr. and Mrs. Lester Groeneweg purchased the home. Dr. Groeneweg, the first chiropractor in Reedsburg, along with his brother, also a chiropractor, used a portion of the home, which included two of the guestrooms, for their office. The Hofmanns have heard stories about some of Dr. Groeneweg's patients being carried up the stairs or crawling up the stairs to be treated by Dr. Groeneweg! One of Dr. Groeneweg's hobbies was to build lawn ornaments and ponds in the yard using stones and shells. The ponds, windmill, and lighthouse are still a part of the lawn decor. The two-room playhouse still on the property was built for their oldest daughter.

There have been several other owners between the Groenewegs and the Hofmanns, who purchased the home in 1988. After months of redecorating and restoring the home to its original beauty, Parkview Bed & Breakfast opened in 1989 with two guestrooms rooms. Over the years, two additional bathrooms have been added. There are now four guest rooms.
